Apple recently released a new ad for iPad, and it features a collection of visual stories focused on “content creation” rather than “content consumption.” During the video, Robin Williams’ narrative from the movie Dead Poet’s Society plays in the background.

I really like the ad, and it made me wonder about iPad in a way I hadn’t before. I’m starting to feel like iPads are getting the same marketing treatment the Macintosh did long ago, as a machine used by artists for creativity. While they may not integrate so well into heavy business systems, iPads are certainly devices that can be used to create, and not just consume, as many would believe.
