While I was perusing through Spotify (my new favorite obsession), I stumbled upon a genre in the Moody section called “Southern Gothic.” I’ve been searching for a term like this for a long time now, and I’m glad to have finally found the concept so eloquently coined.
My senior show for college, ESTRANGED, danced all around the concept of Southern Gothic, even though I wasn’t sure what to call it at the time. I was listening heavily to albums like Daisy by Brand New at the time and I was trying to capture the creepy side of the South that I have come to know well. Southern heritage is deeply rooted in folklore and mystery, and I am proud to be a part of it.
